A 5K2K monitor has a 5120 × 2160 resolution in a 21:9-class ultrawide shape (exactly 64:27): the full 2160-pixel height of 4K plus 1,280 more columns of width. Every 5K2K panel has the same pixel count, so size sets the sharpness: about 140 PPI at 39.7 inches, 139 at 40 inches, 123 at 45 inches and 108 at 51.5 inches.

Size, text and usable workspace
40 vs 45 vs 52 inches: what actually changes?
At 5120 × 2160, a bigger panel makes the same desktop physically larger. It does not add pixels or fit more windows at the same scaling setting. Start with the size of text you can read comfortably, then check the desk.

The 40-inch versus 45-inch decision
Moving from the 39.7-inch Dell to the 45-inch LG adds about 4.9 inches of calculated panel width. At the same scaling, interface elements are about 13% larger on the 45-inch panel. The Dell offers a 120Hz IPS Black panel; the LG offers a 165Hz OLED panel and a tighter curve. Those are different priorities, not a simple upgrade ladder. Compare text rendering and OLED care requirements as well as size.
What 125% and 150% scaling mean
As a simple workspace estimate, divide each native pixel dimension by the scale factor. A 5K2K screen at 125% is about 4096 × 1728 logical pixels; at 150%, about 3413 × 1440. The physical panel still has 5120 × 2160 pixels. Operating systems and apps handle scaling differently, so these are illustrative calculations, not promised display modes or a guarantee of identical sharpness across platforms.
Before ordering for a 48-inch desk
A 45-inch 5K2K panel has about 41.5 inches of calculated width, leaving roughly 6.5 inches across a 48-inch desk before bezels or other equipment. That arithmetic alone does not establish fit: curved-screen geometry, chassis width, stand depth and viewing distance matter. Use the exact manufacturer’s dimensions and leave room for a keyboard and cables.
Check that your computer, dock, cable and chosen input support 5120 × 2160 at the refresh rate you need. A USB-C connector by itself does not settle bandwidth, charging or multi-display support. The 6K Dell U5226KW is a different resolution class; it belongs in the broader buying comparison, not this list of 5120 × 2160 models.
